CITY TRIP TO GIRONA Girona looks like Catalunia's answer to Florence, with its stylish bridges and its majestic cathedral. Close to Barcelona, located midway between the sea and the mountains, Girona boasts a privileged position.
CITY TRIP TO BARCELONABarcelona is arguably Spain's most exciting city. Actually, you will be hard pressed to find such an exhilarating mix of Modernist grandeur and old world splendour anywhere in Europe! Move your Class offers you the best of Barcelona in 1 day. A bilingual guide will take you on a historic tour of the city and after lunch you can enjoy the city at your own pace. If shopping is your thing, this is the place for you. ArchitectureBarcelona claims to have the biggest collection of modernist buildings anywhere in Europe. Most of these Art Nouveau gems, many by world famous architects, can be found in the Eixample district. The most famous of them all is Antoní Gaudí. As Barcelona's foremost ambassador he has left us a legacy of extraordinary buildings, parks and sculptures all over town. You will be able to admire most of his innovative, intriguing designs on our historic tour of the city. Not to be missed: the Sagrada Familia cathedral: Designed by Gaudí more than a century ago, work on this controversial temple is still in progress today. El Barrio Gótico (the Gothic Quarter)Centuries before modernism took hold of the new part of the city, Barcelona was already a thriving Mediterranean port. After all, the Catalan capital used to be the seat of the Crown of Aragon, an expanding maritime empire stretching as far away as Greece. The oldest neighbourhood around the cathedral (from Roman times) dates back to this era, when the Counts of Barcelona ruled in all their splendour. Today we can still explore an intricate maze of medieval squares and alleyways that can compete with Europe's finest. Not to be missed: A walk around the cathedral will take you back more than a thousand years in an instant. La Barceloneta and the beachA city with its own beach is always something special. If instead of hotels and apartments you get an authentic fishing village to go with it, you know you are in Barcelona. The little peninsula of La Barceloneta, in between the Old Port and the zoo, hasn't lost a bit of its working class ardour. All its little bars, colourful tenement blocks, lovely churches and old factories are surrounded by a lovely beach. I guess you have to check it out for yourself in order to truly absorb the old worldly charm of it all. So what are you waiting for? Not to be missed: A stroll over el Passeig de Joan de Borbó with its bustling restaurants and bars. From here you can start exploring La Barceloneta or head for the beach around the corner. Let's go Shopping!Barcelona is certainly among Europe's cities of style. It is a natural magnet for the fashion-conscious and there is no shortage of design outlets for even the most tireless consumer. Everything from books to jewels, from haute couture (local and international) to designer furniture, is on offer. Several markets animate squares around the centre of town. The best shopping areas in central Barcelona are Passeig de Gracia and the streets to its southwest, including the Bulevard Rosa arcade just north of Carrer d'Arago, and Barri Gotic streets such as Carrer de la Portaferrissa, Carrer de la Boqueria, Carrer del Call, Carrer de la Llibreteria and Carrer de Ferran, and around Placa de Sant Josep Oriol. Not to be missed: the Ramblas of Barcelona. Sensory overload guaranteed walking down one of Europe's finest boulevards. Watch your purse and camera, though, for it can get very crowded on the Ramblas. |
